The night of the 8th there was a huge ice storm! It started during the day, and there were already trees blocking the roads by 1pm, and I saw quite a few enormous trees in the WTS woods break in two with a thunderous noise! WTS lost electricity at about 5 until the next morning, and all night, hail and bits of trees pounded the house and the wind never stopped. All night there were crazy crashing sounds from the forest, when the ice laden trees were falling over or snapping in two. It was creepy! And I had no idea what to expect the next morning.
Well, thankfully, the house and the car were OK. but I hope that any little creatures who lost their homes in the trees were OK too.
I went outside to survey the debris in my driveway and a Red Tailed hawk to was sitting right in the middle of the drive by a downed branch. I wonder it its nest had been upset in the storm.
As much as I was upset for the poor groaning trees under the weight of all the ice, it was quite beautiful out and everything sparkled as if it was right out of Oz. Some of the ice on the trees had formed horizontal icicles because the wind of the night before. I love the winter so much and the land was so beautiful the next day. Everything seemed frozen, even the clouds in the bright blue sky. On days like this I just drive and feel like I am in heaven.
