Yes, spring is in the air and lots of flirtations are going on! To the right we have a male Yellow Bellied Sapsucker who discovered that by banging on the metal on top of the deck posts at Wild Things, he could sound very grand to the ladies and very scary to any other males. This went on all day! I was so happy to see him, as it means that the female who was here all winter may not have left, but a mate joined her here! I thought I had seen one in the woods the other day!
And what series of sexy spring pictures would be complete without a sexy male Turkey display?! I woke up this morning and this male was displaying for a couple of hours to a little hen, who was really only interested in finding food. I'm not sure she even noticed him! Or perhaps she was very good at playing it cool.
And this lovely little amphibian say by my window all evening the other night, perhaps looking for love amongst the insect buffet at my kitchen window! Ingrid, if you read this, what species do you think it is??
