After 5 months tucked away safe and sound at Wild Things, the little Yellow Spotted Salamander has a new home! As she was found in a basement, she had nowhere to go. But after a bit of research I found him a home in the Sapsucker Woods. A big thank you to Charles Eldermire, the public outreach associate and manager of the Sapsucker Woods & Johnson Visitor Center at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, who allowed gave her permission to move in! This lovely place in Ithaca, NY will be the perfect home for her. I took her out and she nearly jumped out of my hands and slithered happily under a damp log in the midst of lots of nice leaf-litter. I swear I think she smiled! These salamanders are known as "mole" salamanders as they are burrowers. Thank you to Ingrid for that fact and for helping me release her today! :)
